Discover Valencia's Vibrant Community: Top Picks for Events Selected by a Local Host

We’ve already talked about this in previous articles, but in Valencia, there are endless opportunities to meet new people, connect with others, find friends, and ultimately, find yourself through the exploration of interests.

And while we often focus on coliving spaces as one of the best community-focused concepts, today we want to share some of our favorite events around the city outside of the coliving.

At Vivarium, we always like to gather around similar interests and ideas and to encourage our colivers to go out with one another or with us and connect and experience the life and communities outside the coliving as well.

So, today, we’re bringing you a selection of our favorite picks when it comes to different community events in Valencia. Let’s dive in!

Professional growth and networking events

1) Think about the future of tech on The Next Web Conference Valencia

One of our favorite annual events in Europe, The NextWeb Conference, which has been happening in Amsterdam for the past 16 years, had its first event in Valencia this year, and needless to say, it was a very successful one.

This big event brings together 10,000 faces including entrepreneurs, investors, and tech enthusiasts from all around the world for a three-day conference focused on the latest trends and innovations in the tech industry. With keynote speakers, workshops, and networking opportunities, The Next Web Conference is a great place to extend your network and meet like-minded people if you’re interested in the future of technology - and we know many of you are!

After so many years of successfully rolling in Amsterdam, why did the organizers choose to have the event in Valencia in 2023?

Well, as they say on their website (not that we didn’t know that 🙂, but…) Valencia is the fastest-growing entrepreneurial ecosystem in Spain with more startups per capita than anywhere else in the country. The organizers thought this fact would make the city a perfect ground for a conference like this and they were not wrong - TNWC Valencia was visited by 2000 attendees!

Besides an amazing lineup of speakers, an abundance of interactive experiences, and an opportunity to network and connect, TNWC also supports women and young professionals and entrepreneurs with its Women in Tech and Under 30 Business Passes.

Yes, this all sounds amazing, but don’t worry if you missed it this year - TNWC Valencia will be back in April 2024.

2) Boost or create your startup with the help of Valencia Digital Summit

If you’re into the tech world and don’t feel like waiting until April 2024 to attend a conference such as TNWC, don’t worry - in October 2023, you can attend the Valencia Digital Summit.

Similarly enough, VDS gathers tech enthusiasts but focuses more on the startup scene. If you have a startup or want to learn everything about startup opportunities in the city, this is the way to go. Valencia Digital Summit connects individuals, entrepreneurs, high-level speakers, and investors, which makes it an amazing opportunity for anyone in the tech or startup world to come, network, and find inspiration and new resources for growth.

To complete the vibe, the venue of the summit is the famous City of Art and Sciences in Valencia which brings the summit to the next level.

The tickets go from €200 to €600 for a two-day pass, but there are also early bird discounts until the end of June, as well as volunteering opportunities if you’re still exploring and not ready to commit financially.

Cultural and community events

1) Enjoy live music in peace and mindfulness with Sofar sounds

Sofar Sounds is a global community that connects music enthusiasts all across the globe

In Valencia, Sofar is perfect for those who like to connect over music but also, for those who want to learn more about Valencia’s culture

Sofar organizes different live concert events all around the city, in curated intimate settings and interesting locations. In their events, you will find a lot of uprising and alternative artists across all sorts of genres. Unlike live concerts or gigs, we’re used to, Sofar allows us to be more present, and undistracted, and discover music and the artists through a shared experience.

Their locations are often secret, cozied up in inspirative spaces, and by joining a live music session, you become a part of the performance.

So - a correction - Sofar Sounds can offer so much not only for music enthusiasts but for everybody looking for a more present, tranquil, and intimate way of going out. Check out the next event in Valencia on their website.

2) Learn more than just the language with Valencia Profunda Language Exchange

Valencia Profunda is a creative, immersive, and unique type of language exchange. It’s perfect for foreigners who want to learn Spanish with the locals through interesting and valuable topics or for Spaniards looking to improve their English while also learning about different local businesses.

Unlike other language exchange events, Valencia Profunda focuses on topics relevant to the city by bringing small local businesses to speak about their passion projects. After the presentation, attendees are given language prompts and participate in an interesting language exchange discussing the presentation or the themes and topics around it. There is usually an equal mix between Spanish and English which helps all speakers feel more comfortable.

Another thing that makes Valencia Profunda different is that it changes locations. The organizers pick a different spot for each event letting attendees explore different corners and neighborhoods of Valencia. This is a great opportunity to meet the city and discover something you wouldn’t do by yourself, like new coffee shops, coworking spaces, art galleries, or other, all of which you can return to later by yourself.

Ultimately, what makes Valencia Profunda truly different is the community and a more spontaneous approach to learning a language. Instead of putting pressure on attendees to learn certain phrases, here they learn the language through real-life interactions carrying with them more value than only a few words after the event. Moreover, associating words and phrases with real situations and thoughts helps truly understand them and keep them with you.

We would recommend Valencia Profunda to anyone who’s been in the city for a bit longer. There is absolutely nothing to lose.

3) Explore good vibes, great music, and an astonishing nature with Discohike

Discohike is another fusion of different treasures of Valencia - nature, music, and an amazing international community.

Founded by Philip, a half British half Valencian English teacher, who decided to share his love for nature and good times with others, Discohike is much more than a hike

Discohike is a way to meet people, learn Spanish or English, and just fuse with other cultures while exploring gorgeous hiking paths carefully selected by Philip and listening to live sessions of some of Valencia’s best artists.

A Discohike event starts every Sunday morning. The group packs up in a car and drives off to Philip’s selection of the week. After some time hiking, chit-chatting, meeting each other, and enjoying the scenery, the group gathers to chill with a live music session right there in nature. Well, that sounds amazing, doesn’t it? It’s because it is.

Vivarium joined Philip’s Discohike with our community a few times and we would recommend it to everyone. It’s a great way to decompress on a Sunday and connect with yourself and others. We spend so much time in front of the screens, and a fun immersive experience like Discohike is a remedy for this.

4) Wake up your brain juice with Creative mornings Valencia

Lastly on our list (at least this one) - Creative Morning Valencia. Every month, you can join a free discussion, breakfast, and networking by Creative Morning Valencia.

Creative Mornings is a global community operating in 65 countries and 200 cities, and one of them is our city! What this organization does is it gathers volunteers and speakers, from all sorts of industries to open a creative discussion with everyone willing to join over a fresh coffee and a healthy breakfast.

The idea was born in 2008 in New York by Tina Roth Eisenberg who wanted to bring friends and communities together over a light breakfast and share inspiration.

Today, this monthly breakfast lecture happening all over the world brings together creatives from all fields for a morning of inspiration and networking. With speakers from a variety of industries, these events are a great way to connect with other creatives and learn about the latest trends and innovations in art, design, and beyond.
